Youth Livelihood Support
Youth unemployment poses a serious political, economic and social challenge to Uganda. The Network is enhancing employability and employment of marginalized youth through vocational and entrepreneurship training skills programmes to boost their incomes.
NEMACY-Uganda runs a skills development programme for children under rehabilitation at its transit centres. Plans are underway to establish a Future Leaders Organic Training (FLOT) farm that equips unemployed youth with practical farming and agro-processing(value addition) skills in order to create employment and raise income.
Former street children, unemployed and out of school youth are mobilized into cooperatives focused on agricultural production, value addition (processing), farming, savings and credit and transport services among others . They are trained in relevant employable and job creation skills and later linked to viable Micro-Finance Institutions (MFIs) for financial support.
The Network is also advocating for youth friendly policies such as a review of education curriculum to address issues of unemployment including education focused on vocational and entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, savings, and the thrifty use of resources
