NEMACY –Uganda after securing funds from the Australian Government on her Project entitled Integrated Response to a Conducive Health Environment (RICHE), decided to construct a magnificent Maternity ward and Patient waiting shelter at Buwenge Health Centre IV in Jinja district. This is in response to one of the researches conducted on the health situation of Buwenge rural sub-county and Buwenge town council in Jinja district. The research revealed lack of Maternity ward and patient waiting shelter. Most deliveries were being referred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and some mothers were dying before reaching Jinja. And those who were coming at the facility to seek medical treatment were lining up in sun shine and rain in order to wait for examination from either a nurse or a doctor. What gives mothers and the people of Busoga region hope is that procurement was done and the contractor was awarded the contract, construction has started and it is on course one the residents said. Also Mr. Muwanga Peter Guluka, the Head of Finance Department at NEMACY-Uganda, has assured the people of Buwenge at Buwenge Health Centre IV that except the interruption of the ongoing rain, work will be completed as planned.
Interestingly, Dr. Grace the Head of Buwenge Health Centre IV said this is the first time in the history of the facility to receive such Maternity ward for mothers. However, said the building will also be used for other service not only for mothers and this is going to improve the quality of health services the people of Buwenge will be receiving after the completion of the building.
